July May Be Wet But Summer Is Making A Comeback In SCORCHING August

The summer holidays may have started with a wet and windy whimper but don’t pack those shorts away just yet as August is set to be a SCORCHER.

Britain has been lashed by torrential rain and autumn temperatures over the past few days but as July ends, so does the unseasonal weather.

Forecasters are predicting dry weather and hot temperatures from the second week of August - meaning staycationers can stop fearing a holiday washout.

James Madden, forecaster for Exacta Weather, said the early signs for August were good, with temperatures potentially reaching as high as 32 degrees.

He said: “There have been enough signals to indicate some major heat surges into August that will see many parts of the country basking in some glorious sunshine.”

The weather website added: “This pattern change is likely to be quite significant and it will lead us in to a largely settled August with periods of warm to very hot weather for many, in particular, in parts of the south.”

The Met Office also predicted a change in fortunes for rain-suffering Brits.

Forecaster Nicky Maxey said: “For the start of August we’ve got some fairly changeable conditions.

“Then after that there are signs we are in for a period of dry and settled weather.”

“You’re still looking at showery and breezy weather in between but looking more settled for the rest of August after that first week.”

The Met Office website added: “There are signals for more settled and generally drier conditions to predominate for much of the UK through this period, but more especially in the south and east.”

July saw temperatures of over 35 degrees in parts of the country, but the end of the month saw them drop to the mid-high teens.

Parents and children were dealt a wet blow at the start of their holidays at the end of last week as over a month’s worth of rain fell in just 24 hours.
