Jumanji trailer: Dwayne Johnson and Karen Gillan star in first look at remake with a modern twist

The first trailer for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle has dropped – and the game has had a modern day makeover.

The film, which stars Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan, Kevin Hart and Jack Black, plays out on a computer as opposed to a board game.

The two and a half minute clip kicks off with teens Spencer (Alex Wolff), Bethany (Madison Iseman), Anthony 'Fridge' Johnson (Ser'Darius Blain) and Martha (Morgan Turner) banished to clean the basement after getting into trouble at school.

They stumble upon a video game version of Jumanji, complete with the famous tagline: “A game for those who seek to find a way to leave their world behind.”

They pick their characters before getting sucked into the TV screen and transforming into the avatars they chose.

The action-packed first look – soundtracked by Guns and Roses’ Welcome to the Jungle – sees Black falling into a waterfall, Hart attempting to outrun a rhinoceros stampede and Johnson trying not to cry.

Junamji will be a sequel to the 1995 film of the same name which starred Kirsten Dunst and the late Robin Williams.

It followed Alan Parish (Williams), Sarah Whittle (Bonnie Hunt) and Judy and Peter Shepherd (Dunst and Bradley Pierce) as they attempted to finish a board game which was started in 1969.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is slated for release this Christmas.
