The Jura region’s treasured ‘Salt Road’

For almost a millennium, it was called the “white gold” for its ability to conserve food. Salt is a treasure of the Jura region in eastern France. In the town of Salins-les-Bains, salt factories are held in the same esteem as cathedrals. Today, Jurassien salt is used to melt ice on wintery roads as well as to make caramel in the little town of Morteau.
