When Jurgen Klopp will make Liverpool return after emotional Borussia Dortmund comeback
Jurgen Klopp was back in the dugout for one day only on Saturday as the former Liverpool boss cut short his sabbatical to make a brief return to management. The German returned to Borussia Dortmund for a special testimonial match honouring Jakub Blaszczykowski and Lucas Piszczek.
Klopp managed a Blaszczykowski XI to a 5-4 victory over Piszczek XI - led by his former assistant manager, Peter Krawietz - at Signal Iduna Park. And on an emotional day at the Westfalenstadion, the German demonstrated his connection with Dortmund supporters is as strong as ever.
A whopping 81,635 supporters attended Saturday’s match as they were treated to a goal-fest. And after the final whistle, Klopp dusted off his trademark fistpumps celebration to the famous ‘Yellow Wall’.

However, having vowed to take at least a year-long sabbatical from football after leaving Liverpool at the end of last season, it would be a surprise if Saturday’s special return to the dugout led to the German cutting short his break from the game.
Klopp already cut short one sabbatical to join the Reds back in October 2015, having intended to take a year out from management after leaving Borussia Dortmund.
Now 57 years old, while he has already admitted a number of times that he does intend to return to football, he has also hinted more than once that his next role might not be as a club manager.
For now, the former Liverpool boss is enjoying his break from the game. And he has crammed plenty into so far since leaving the Reds back in May.
He’s attended the Champions League final at Wembley, Euro 2024 matches back in his homeland, the Mallorca Tennis Championships and the recent Paralympics in Paris, as well as one of Taylor Swift’s concerts at Anfield.
But after returning to Borussia Dortmund during the September international break, when can we expect to see Klopp back at Anfield to see Liverpool in action? Well the German has already provided an answer.
"I know I can come back and I will come back," he promised after his final match against Wolves in May. "How I said after the game, from today, from three hours ago when the game finished, I'm a Liverpool supporter and I love that.
"Now we will have a party and then we will come back next for another event and I will come back occasionally just, how I said, as a supporter now, and I'm fine with that, honestly.
"Maybe not for the first game of the season - that's early, wow! Maybe after the second international break or something like this."
So, one international break halfway down, another one and a half to go at least before we might witness Klopp back at Anfield.
Of course, such a scenario would just be in the stands. But is there any chance we will see him in the Reds dugout again?
Well the annual Official LFC Foundation Charity Match traditionally takes place during the March international break, with Liverpool Legends facing Ajax in their most recent match earlier this year.
Meanwhile, the Reds stars of yesteryear have previously welcomed Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, AC Milan, Barcelona, Manchester United and Celtic to Anfield for their charity encounters.
Who knows, having returned to the Westfalenstadion dugout on Saturday, maybe if Liverpool Legends were to line up their Borussia Dortmund counterparts as a future opponent, Klopp would be tempted to make another temporary managerial return at Anfield.
Liverpool are currently impressing without their legendary former manager after Arne Slot enjoyed an 100% winning start to his reign as Reds head coach. The Dutchman's side have won their three opening matches of the Premier League season without conceding a goal, including a memorable 3-0 thrashing of Manchester United at Old Trafford, with it only goals scored that leaves them second in the Premier League table behind reigning champions Man City.
