Jury find three guilty of grievous bodily harm after man, 20, left paralysed in fall from home
Three people have been found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent after a 20-year-old fell from a three-storey home and was left paralysed.
Samantha Jade Nunn, 33, Andrew Hobson, 45, Kallum Shilham, 24, were convicted by a jury on Wednesday - less than 24-hours after the jury retired to consider their verdicts. A 20-year-old suffered spine and face fractures and was left with a large blood clot on his brain after a fleet of 999 crews flooded Parkfield Way, in Stockton , in the early hours of April 7.
Paramedics rushed to the scene at around 4.15am and the man was taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough. Teesside Crown Court heard an investigation was launched which saw Nunn, 33, and Hobson, 45, originally charged with attempted murder.
The three defendants stood trial this week which saw a jury shown harrowing Ring doorbell footage of the incident. The victim was shown to fall from a three-storey home after three men entered the property.
Describing the video, prosecutor Paul Rooney said: "At one point she's [Samantha Nunn] telling them to smash the window using a wheelie bin which she's dragged towards the house. The defendant Hobson we say can be seen kicking the door with significant force and then smashing one of the downstairs front windows before breaking the window frame to gain entry."
Teesside Crown Court heard the three men - Hobson, Shilham and an unidentified man - entered the house, wearing balaclavas and armed with a pool cue and machete. Seconds later, the victim fell.
Mr Rooney told the jury: "He fell almost vertically head first to the ground. Part of his body makes contact with the wheelie bin. The impact with the ground caused immediate catastrophic injuries. He can be seen lying motionless on the ground. He can be heard saying 'help' before he loses consciousness."
The 20-year old man was left paralysed by his fall and now requires 24-hour care. On Wednesday lunchtime, the jury found the three defendants guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent and aggravated burglary. Hobson was also convicted of possession of an offensive weapon.
Prior to the trial, Nunn, of Sandringham Road, Thornaby and Shilham admitted GBH without intent. Shilham, of Harrowgate Lane in Stockton, pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article on the same date.
The three were remanded in custody and will be sentenced on November 7.
