Passengers aboard an Allegiant Air flight on the tarmac in Punta Gorda, Florida, on September 7 reacted in disbelief when a man was asked to leave the plane because, witnesses said, he asked a flight attendant to put on a face mask.
“I just asked somebody to put on their face mask,” the man is heard saying in this video taken by a fellow passenger.
As the man is escorted from his seat, a number of others aboard voice their objections. “You are totally wrong,” one says. “This is ridiculous,” says another.
The man then asks to speak to the captain, but is told he may not.
The passenger, referred to as Mr Peterman by a flight attendant, then calls towards the cockpit as he passes, again asking to speak to the captain. “I just asked somebody to put on their face mask,” he says.
In a statement issued to Newsweek, Allegiant Air said the passenger was “disrupting” the pre-flight safety briefing. “The flight attendant giving the safety briefing lowered their mask for speaking into the PA so the briefing could be understood,” they said.
