A longstanding lighting shop in Grimsby is closing its doors for the final time due to rising costs.

At the end of February, the Elegant Lighting showroom on Cleethorpe Road will be closing down for good after finding it "increasingly difficult" to operate since 2021.

A spokesperson for Elegant Lighting told Grimsby Live that they have seen "massive increases" in utility bills, insurance and other costs since the Covid-19 pandemic.

They said: "We are really sad that after 16 years we have to announce that we shall be closing our doors on February 28. We’d like to thank so many great customers for choosing their lighting from us over the years.

"Since 2021 we have found it increasingly difficult to keep our heads above the water, due to the massive increases in utility bills, insurance and other costs since Covid. With many extra costs due in April, we’ve decided we just can’t afford to keep trading.

"We’ve started our closing down sale with 50 percent off all display and in stock items. It’s been great to have been involved in assisting and advising customers from their plans, photographs and ideas in their heads, with many coming back with photographs after their lights have been installed. Again, thank you to all of you who supported the high street and bought locally."

One person wrote: "Absolutely gutted! You have been my go to for lights forever. Nowhere even touches you. But I understand. Such a tough world for small businesses. I’m so sorry to see this ladies but wish you well for the future."
