Did she just say that? Katy Perry accused of racism for Barack Obama 'joke'

Well, this is awkward.

Fans were left scratching their heads after Katy Perry seemingly compared people missing her old black hair style to America missing Barack Obama in office.

The star came under fire and has sparked fury on Twitter for saying that “times change” and likening her recent makeover to Barack leaving the White House.

She’s now being called a racist online, after the live video was recorded and swiftly shared on social media sites.

Though her comment was clearly a slip of the tongue, it caused a huge stir online last night.

It all kicked off when Katy took to Instagram Live over the weekend (see above video), and when one fan expressed missing her original dark locks, Katy quipped sarcastically: “Oh, someone says, ‘I miss your old black hair.’ Oh, really? Do you miss Barack Obama as well? Oh, OK. Times change. Bye! See you guys later.”

She then starts laughing before turning around to see her friends’ reactions, before saying “I should leave now.” And someone off camera can be heard telling the singer: “You’re cut off!”

Unsurprisingly, her weird ‘joke’ sparked rage online with fans calling her a ‘loser” and racist.

To make matters worse, Katy reportedly called Kanye West’s pal the N word when they previously collaborated on a track.

Katy, 32, is yet to respond to the backlash and is said to be trying to “start over” in 2017 and has been “working on herself” in the past few months.

A source told E! News: “Katy is starting over in many ways. She has been working on herself the past few months and has a few goals she wants to meet in 2017.

“She lost track last year and has been working hard getting everything back in place.”

It seems to us that she might need to work a bit harder.
