These four people are just some of the Just Stop Oil protesters who have scaled gantries above the M25 in a bid to cause significant disruption and bring national attention to their demands.
On Thursday, the environmental campaign group were back on the motorway for the fourth consecutive day, shutting sections of the road in both directions.
Just Stop Oil said its supporters climbed gantries “in multiple locations” from 6.30am, forcing drivers to endure yet another day of delays while police remove them.
Four of those protesters, featured in the clip above, have outlined exactly why they are putting their lives in danger.
Addressing the camera, each of the four repeated the central demand of the group - an end to all new fossil fuel licences in the UK.
Sam Holland, 20, said the government was “run by criminals” and that the licences would “kill millions of people”.
Louise Harris, 24, appeared to break down in tears as she pleaded with motorists to “direct their hatred and anger at the government”.
Bristol University student Jesse Prince, 19, said that the world needs to “transition away from an animal-based diet”, while 41-year-old Isabel Rock described oil and gas licences as a “death sentence”.
A police officer was injured during Wednesday’s protests, with Essex Police saying there was a collision involving the police motorcyclist and two lorries during a rolling roadblock.
Chief constable BJ Harrington warned it is “only a matter of time” before someone is killed during a Just Stop Oil protest.
