Unlike Marvel, post-credits scenes aren't guaranteed in DC movies. Suicide Squad had a mid-credits scene, but Man of Steel, Batman v Superman and Wonder Woman all shunned the trend.

Well, Justice League has embraced that superhero-movie standard with not one but two (or a mid-credits scene and a post-credits scene, if you want to get technical).

Here's what they are and what they mean. Spoilers follow, naturally.

Post-credits scene 1: Superman vs the Flash

The mid-credits scene harks back to an early joke about how Superman's speed matches – and possibly exceeds – the Flash's.

Ezra Miller and Henry Cavill take their marks on an open road and set out to answer the question once and for all, leaving us to guess at the outcome.

Races between the Flash and Superman are a longstanding comics trope. The Flash usually wins, although there have been a handful of cop-out draws.

Post-credits scene 2: The Injustice Gang

The final scene revealed that Lex Luthor had escaped from his prison cell, leaving a hapless bald man in his place.

We find him on a very expensive-looking yacht moored by what appears to be a Mediterranean coastal city.

Jesse Eisenberg was reported to have been cut from the movie, so his presence was a surprise, but not as surprising as the appearance of Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke, ahead of his appearance in The Batman, his own solo movie or whatever film they decide to feature him in first.

Luthor's suggestion that they form "a league of our own" is a clear reference to the Injustice Gang, a rival to the Justice League that has included villains the Joker, Poison Ivy, Scarecrow, Ocean Master and – of course – Luthor himself.
