Justice League helmsman Zack Snyder is working an a new 'faithful retelling' of the King Arthur story, he's revealed.

The Watchmen director made the comments during an appearance on the Minutemen show.

“I'm working on something but we'll see,” he teased.

“I've been thinking about some kind of retelling, like, [a] real sort of faithful retelling of that Arthurian mythological concept. We'll see. Maybe that will come at some point.”

Snyder has been lost in the world of superheroes for some time, as the director of Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, plus producing the likes of Suicide Squad, Aquaman and Wonder Woman for Warner Bros' DCEU.

So a trip back in time would represent something of a trip back in time.

However, plans to reboot the Arthurian legend were undertaken fairly recently, with Guy Ritchie directing and producing King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.

Released in 2017, it found Charlie Hunnam playing the young King Arthur, alongside an all-star cast, including Jude Law, Eric Bana, Djimon Hounsou and Aiden Gillen.

However, critics panned the film, and it tanked at the box office, making just $148 million, but having cost $175 million.

Plans for a six-movie franchise were soon shelved.
