Musician Justin Townes Earle, son of Steve Earle, has died aged 38

Musician Justin Townes Earle, the son of singer Steve Earle, has died at the age of 38.

The announcement came Sunday (23 August) from Earle’s social media accounts.

A post showing a photo of the Americana star playing his guitar is captioned: “It is with tremendous sadness that we inform you of the passing of our son, husband, father and friend Justin.

“So many of you have relied on his music and lyrics over the years and we hope that his music will continue to guide you on your journeys.

The post also shared lyrics by Earle from his song Looking For A Place To Land.

The post ends: “I've crossed oceans, Fought freezing rain and blowing sand, I've crossed lines and roads and wondering rivers, Just looking for a place to land”

The statement was also posted to Earle’s Facebook account.

The cause of Earle’s death is yet to be confirmed.

Earle released nine albums altogether, starting with 2007’s Yuma. In 2019 he released his final album The Saint Of Lost Causes.

His label, New West Records, have released a statement on Twitter. It reads: “It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Justin Townes Earle.

“Justin was uniquely talented and we are all devastated with this terrible loss.

“Our hearts are with his family and loved ones at this time. Further details are forthcoming.”

Author Stephen King tweeted: “It appears that Justin Townes Earle has died. I hope it's a hoax but fear it is not. What a loss.”

Band The Head & the Heart posted: “RIP Justin Townes Earle,” “We had the pleasure of playing a few shows together. He was such an immense songwriter and authentic soul. This year is a thief.”
