It’s a dog life for these canine sightseers who are being given a cultural tour across London this week.

The free bus tour, specifically designed for our four-legged friends, gives owners and their pets a chance to enjoy the pooch-friendly parts of the capital.

The bus ride is complete with stop-offs for walks, as well as calls at dog-friendly restaurants and attractions with a canine theme.

Beginning and ending at Millbank, near the Tate Britain, the K9 bus takes in some London’s best green space: Hyde Park, Kensington Palace Gardens and Green Park.

It will run three times a day (departing at 10am, 12pm and 2pm) for four days between Monday 16 and Thursday 19 January 2017.

The sightseeing tour will include dog-related trivia.

As the bus passes Buckingham Palace, for example, guests may be informed: “Queen Elizabeth II has owned more than 30 corgis during her reign and currently has one named Willow.”

Guests will also be provided with a leaflet mapping dog-friendly pubs, bars and restaurants in the area.

The event site adds: “Live on board commentary for dog owners lifts the lid on London’s rich canine history, including the ministerial dogs of Downing Street, the many corgis that have shared Buckingham Palace with the Queen and the location of London’s only dog cemetery.”

The venture is backed by UK insurance company More Than and its spokesman, Steve Jay, said: “London is a city famed for its fascinating history and rich culture, much of which man’s best friend has been heavily involved in.

“The K9 Bus Tour aims to celebrate this often under-appreciated fact, while also providing owners with a fun and unique way to spend time entertaining their beloved pet.”
