The 16-year-old daughter of supermodel Cindy Crawford has been selected by Chanel's creative director to design a collection for his eponymous label.

Kaia Gerber made her runway debut at New York Fashion Week SS18 and quickly became the breakout model of the season, walking in a total of 18 shows.

Karl Lagerfeld chose her to open his Chanel SS18 show in Paris in October, and walk in the brand's Metiers d'Art show in December.

And now, he's chosen her to collaborate with him on a collection.

With more than 2.6 million Instagram followers and an enviable off-duty wardrobe, not to mention serious fashion biz credentials courtesy of her mother, Kaia is a powerful youth brand for industry behemoth Lagerfeld to partner with.

"When Karl first told us his idea to collaborate with Kaia, we were all excited by the incredible potential and power of bringing their two worlds together," says Pier Paolo Righi, CEO of Karl Lagerfeld.

"We have been working intensely over the last months with Kaia in L.A. and at our studio in Paris. It was exciting to see her clear vision, passion and engagement, and the collection will definitely inspire many young women."

The Karl Lagerfeld x Kaia collection will feature ready-to-wear and accessories including footwear, sunglasses and jewellery and be a unique blend of Karl's Parisian aesthetic and Gerber's laid-back Cali style.

The fruits of the creative partnership will hit Karl Lagerfeld stores, KARL.COM and select wholesale partners in the autumn.
