It's a big day for Vice President Kamala Harris and second gentleman Doug Emhoff.

The couple, who have been in Chicago all week for the Democratic National Convention, are celebrating 10 years of marriage on Thursday, Aug. 22 — the same day that Harris, 59, will make history as the first Black woman to accept a major party's presidential nomination.

Emhoff, also 59, spoke about the couple's impending anniversary in his DNC speech on Tuesday, Aug. 20, mentioning a rambling voicemail he left on her phone after he first got ahold of her number in 2013.

"By the way, Kamala saved that voicemail, and she makes me listen to it every anniversary," Emhoff said, noting that she is due to make him listen to the voicemail for the 10th time on Thursday.

The second gentleman went on to say that he believes Harris will lead with "joy," "toughness" and "compassion" if she's elected president.

Emhoff spoke about their first blind date in an audio clip that's included in the video.

"We were literally talking about our future by the end of that first date and that next morning I'm sending her an email: 'Here are my availabilities for the next six months,' " he said. "And 10 years later, here we are."

He described their first meeting as "love at first sight" in the clip.

"She’s an amazing wife, loving to me,” Emhoff exclusively told PEOPLE in 2023. "She focuses on me as much as I focus on her. Maybe I’m a little more public about it."
