Kansas State Trooper Rescues Truck Driver Amid Wildfire

A Kansas Highway Patrol trooper rescued a truck driver who was stranded on a highway amid a wildfire on Monday, March 6. The incident was caught on the trooper’s dashcam, showing the scene as they drove to safety.

Trooper Tod Hileman, who posted the dashcam video to Facebook, said he was near Wilson on Interstate 70 when the fire jumped the road east of him. He was attempting to turn people around before they drove into the fire, he wrote. After turning 20 cars and two trucks back, the fire had spread to the west of him too. When a truck tried to turn around, it got stuck on the median. Hileman can be heard telling the driver to get into his vehicle.

The fire in the video had burned through 1,000 square miles by Wednesday, according to a local report. Credit: Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper Tod Hileman via Storyful
