Has Kanye West swapped his LA mega mansion for a £42 million bunker house by Tadao Ando?
US rapper Kanye West has reportedly spent $57.3 million (£41.9 million) on a concrete bunker-style home without a garden in Malibu.
It was originally listed for sale for a staggering $75 million by retired Wall Street financier Richard Sachs, who paid less than $2 million for it in 2003, then commissioned acclaimed architect Tadao Ando to create a minimalist, three-storey home with wall-to-wall views of the Pacific.
West, who released his long-awaited Donda album this month, is said to be a huge Ando fan after visiting the Japanese art island of Naoshima created by the king of concrete.
The controversial rap star and his now-estranged wife Kim Kardashian own a colossal mansion in the Hidden Hills that took six years – and more than $20 million - to renovate into what West described in 2020 as a “futuristic Belgian monastery.”
The new Malibu property, sold in an off-market deal, has three bedrooms on the ground floor, with living areas arranged above, and a top-floor master bedroom with rooftop terrace overlooking the surfers’ paradise.
