A questionable style of trainers has caused a bit of a stir after the spiderweb-esque design was compared to a Cornish pasty. The Yeezy 450 has even been called "a bit of a weird shoe" by retailers.

Made in collaboration with Yeezy, a fashion brand founded by American rapper Kanye West - who now goes simply by the name Ye - the shoes have proven controversial since their release.

Now, people who just can't get on board with their looks have even likened the style to the Cornish pastry, and we just can't unsee it. The pattern, supposed to be reminiscent of a spiderweb, does indeed resemble the classic pasty crimp.

Worlds away from your conventional trainer style, the 450 features a sock-like collar that wraps pretty tightly around your ankle. It's also got a claw-like look to it.

Retailer The Soul Supplier says of the shoe: "There is no doubt in anyone's mind that the Yeezy 450 is Kanye West's most experimental silhouette to date. Made in collaboration with Adidas, the first time we saw these crazy creps was all the way back in August 2018 when Ye himself took to X, then Twitter, to reveal them.

"Originally nicknamed the Yeezy 451, they're the brainchild of legendary designer Steven Smith, who also so happened to be the mind behind other legendary silhouettes such as the Reebok InstaPump Fury, the New Balance 1500, and the Nike Air Zoom Spiridon Caged 2."

Tweeting about the style earlier this month, @thebowlerhatman reignited the debate about the runners. He wrote: "I love a bit of fancy dress... But, am I out of touch... Or are these ugly?"

And people were quick to point out they not only agreed but also found their likeness to a certain Cornish food unmissable. @aim4thelight said: "I'll be honest - at first glance I thought it was a pasty."

@idlewidegirl added: "Looks like people have got Cornish pasties on the ends of their legs. I don't understand it at all." @muzicgeezer said: "I’m an Adidas collector, but these are a step too much."

At the time, the controversial shoe was retailing for £150 having been slashed from the original price of £210. You can now pick up a pair for as low as £65 - but some colours will cost you a bit extra.
