Kardashians and Monsters actor visit real-life protagonists of true crime drama in prison
Kim Kardashian, her mum Kris, and sister Khloe visited inmates at San Diego's Richard J. Donovan Correctional facility on Saturday.
Those present for the discussion of justice reform included Lyle and Erik Menendez, the subject of Ryan Murphy's new Netflix biopic series Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. Film producer Scott Budnick and actor Cooper Koch, who plays Erik in Monsters, also joined the jail visit, according to TMZ.com.
The Menendez brothers, convicted of fatally shooting their parents Kitty and Jose Menendez in 1989, were sentenced to life imprisonment without parole for of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
Kim and her family's visit came just a day after Erik slammed Monsters in a statement posted to X, formerly Twitter, by his wife Tammi.
It criticised the series' "ruinous character portrayals" of him and his brother, and added: "It is with a heavy heart that I say, I believe Ryan Murphy cannot be this naive and inaccurate about the facts of our lives so as to do this without bad intent."
Kim regularly visits prisons to learn and speak about rehabilitation programs and prison reform, and has taken an interest in the Menendez case - conducting a Variety interview with Chloë Sevigny, who portrays Kitty in the crime drama.
Explaining her personal interest in the case, Kim added: "I grew up right down the street from the house that all happened in, and everyone went to the same schools. I remember hearing about that case. But my dad drove me by the house and told me the story. And he had been in the house."
