Kasabian have hailed their Leicester homecoming gig as the “greatest night of their lives”. Thousands rocked it out at Victoria Park for the stunning set.

The Leicester rockers took over Victoria Park on Saturday (July 6) for their Summer Solstice II gig. It took place 10 years after the first Summer Solstice performance and welcomed around 35,000 fans to the city.

The 90-minute spectacular included pyro displays, stunning vocals as well as Kasabian’s own twist on 90s classics, including Faithless' mega hit, Insomnia. The band have been bowled over by the response and in a statement said that someone was going to need to “bring us back down to earth”.

Led by frontman Serge Pizzorno, the Leicester rockers pumped out the tunes across the performance, kicking off with new material, including the song ‘Call’ from their latest album, ‘Happenings’. It wasn’t long before a series of the band’s best known hits delighted the thousands in Leicester though, with ‘Club Foot’ among the tunes they belted out.

The Leicester homecoming came a week after Kasabian performed a surprise set at Glastonbury Festival. The performance went down a treat with festival-goers and proved to be the perfect warm-up for Summer Solstice II.

The band, who ended the night with the anthemic ‘Fire’, have hailed it as their greatest night - with much of their praise for the Leicester crowd. In a statement, they said: “Together we took the city out of the stratosphere that was the greatest night of our lives.

“They were the biggest drops we’ve ever seen and the buzz for the ‘Happenings’ tunes were off the scale. Thank you to all the Kasabian massive for creating pandemonium and all your love and support.”

Fans are calling on the band to return to Victoria Park again for a third Summer Solstice gig. For now, they are set to head off on tour around the UK this autumn.
