Kate Beckinsale jokes she would 'rather die' than find love on a dating app

Kate Beckinsale said she gets "socially freaked out" by dating and there's no chance she will find a new romantic partner via an app.

The 48-year-old star told The Howard Stern Show, reported via The Mirror, that she has only dated three people since splitting from her ex-husband — Total Recall director Len Wiseman — in 2015.

"I am not very prolific. I have also learned that I am very bad at picking," she said.

Beckinsale said she "would rather die" than try out dating apps, adding: "That is saying to me: ‘Oh hello, serial killer. Come and get me.’

"That would be my luck. It would be ‘he is cute’... then it is f***ing Ted Bundy."

It's not just apps like Tinder that upset Beckinsale either, with traditional dating proving just as uncomfortable for her.

She said: "I cannot think of anything I hate more – sitting on a date with somebody who I don’t know if I am into and having to watch them eat a whole dinner, and having to get out of it. It makes me sweaty.

“I think people are so brave and cool that they can do that. I am too socially freaked out by that.”

Beckinsale was romantically attached to comedian and The Suicide Squad star Pete Davidson in 2019, but they split after just a few months together.

She has a 22-year-old daughter with actor Michael Sheen, whom she dated before her marriage to Wiseman.

Beckinsale issued a statement earlier this week, reacting to a furore around comments she made about IQ in her interview with Howard Stern.

The star had been repeatedly asked her IQ and then, after calling her mother, she confirmed it was 152 and stated she believes the number "might have been a handicap" in her career.

After she was accused by some media outlets of bragging, Beckinsale said on Instagram that she is frustrated about society "requiring women to dumb themselves down in order not to offend".

She added: "When I said it has been a handicap in Hollywood it’s PRECISELY because being female AND having an opinion often has to be quite carefully packaged so as not to be offensive or, as in this case, deliberately twisted into signifying ones perceived superiority or arrogance."
