Kate Garraway and Alison Hammond to discover family trees in new 'DNA Journey' series

ITV genealogy show DNA Journey is set to return for a new series that will see Kate Garraway and Alison Hammond team up to discover their family secrets.

The programme follows pairs of celebrities taking a closer look at their ancestry and long-lost living relatives in an often emotional discovery about their families.

DNA Journey's new series is set to air in two parts - going out in the spring and the autumn - with the first lot of new episodes beginning next month.

Taking on the fascinating adventure in the first part of the series will be ice skating partners and Dancing On Ice stars Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, actors Maureen Lipman and Rula Lenska, and The Chase quizzers Anne Hegerty and Shaun Wallace.

Viewers can then look forward to DNA Journey returning for four more episodes in the autumn, where comedians Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan, Gavin & Stacey co-stars Alison Steadman and Larry Lamb, comedians and presenters Joel Dommett and Tom Allen, and ITV daytime stars Alison Hammond and Kate Garraway will feature.

Previously, the series has featured Ant and Dec, Martin and Roman Kemp, Freddie Flintoff and Jamie Redknapp, and Amanda Holden with Alan Carr.

Although the celebrities taking part are usually not related, they do have to be close friends as they support each other's search to investigate their family tree.

ITV viewers have recently found out a lot about Good Morning Britain star Garraway's immediate family as she has made two acclaimed documentaries, Finding Derek and Caring for Derek.

They followed her husband Derek Draper's fight to recover from being the UK's worst-affected living COVID patient, his year-long stay in hospital and his tough ongoing recovery, which includes needing round-the-clock care at home.

She has also recently taken over the Life Stories series of celebrity interviews from friend and former colleague Piers Morgan, who has now left ITV for Rupert Murdoch's new venture talkTV.
