Kate Garraway announces plans for new documentary on husband Derek

Kate Garraway has announced plans to keep sharing her husband's Derek Draper's fight against COVID-19 in a new documentary.

Last year's Kate Garraway: Finding Derek – which followed the presenter's husband has he has to be hospitalised for a year after doctors put him in an induced coma due to multiple infections and organ failure – won National Television Award on Thursday (September 9).

Kate, 54, is now in talks with ITV to make a sequel.

The follow up documentary will likely chronicle Derek's road to recovery since returning home, provided he has adequate strength and stamina.

Speaking at the NTAs, the Good Morning Britain host said: "We are going to make another documentary – there are plans for more.

"Derek has a very short window of energy, but we are tying. He has been home for four months now and it was enough for him being home.

"Now we are really hoping we can have more and more people in to see him."

Kate, who won the Authored Documentary award at the ceremony, made an emotional video call to her husband who was at home in bed, to share the moment.

Speaking on Friday (September 10) on GMB, she said: "It's our wedding anniversary, Derek and I, today. I haven't been able to see him yet.

"I'm going to go home and give him a massive hug. I'm going to give him this award and actually his present to me is the fact that he's here and we've got a chance to celebrate in whatever way we can," she added.

Kate Garraway: Finding Derek aired on ITV in March 2021 and is available to watch on ITV Hub.
