Kate Garraway has extended an apology to Bobby Brazier after a lively encounter at the National Television Awards. On her Smooth radio show, following the awards night, Kate said that she felt compelled to apologise to the EastEnders actor because her daughter became overly excited upon meeting him.

She said: "Let's talk NTAs." She also expressed feeling "completely overwhelmed" and "so grateful" as her documentary focusing on the care system clinched an award. She added: "As for Darcey and Billy, they were so proud of their dad.

"Although Darcey was also very over excited running everywhere nobbling Love Islanders and reality stars for photos. Lovely to see her having fun. But particular apologies must go to Bobby Brazier, who she actually interrupted while he was queuing for the loo!"

Kate then added: "Poor soul. He was very nice about it," reports the Mirror. At the ceremony, which took place at London's O2 Arena on Wednesday, September 11, Kate was honoured with the Best Authored Documentary award for 'Derek's Story', chronicling her 'final chapter' with her late husband Derek.

Derek died in January this year after enduring long-term complications from Covid-19, including kidney failure, brain inflammation, and liver damage.

During her acceptance speech, Kate expressed her surprise and mixed emotions: "I really genuinely did not expect this, goodness me. This is a bittersweet one isn't it? It's very bitter to be here, with the gorgeous Darcey and Billy."

She continued by sharing the personal challenges she faced: "I promised them they didn't have to say anything. We're halfway through the first year of firsts really. A first Easter and first birthdays, without Derek. It's so strange to be here for the first Television Awards without him."
