Kate Garraway has apologised to one of last year's Strictly Come Dancing stars after revealing that her daughter interrupted him at a key moment during the National Television Awards (NTAs).

The Good Morning Britain presenter attended the event with her children, Darcey, 18, and Billy,15, and the trio later took the stage when Garraway’s ITV doc, Derek's Story, won the award for Best Authored Documentary.

This marked her third win in the category, which she described as "bittersweet," as the film followed the final year of her husband’s life before he passed away in January at the age of 56, after a lengthy battle with the long-term effects of Covid.

It followed on from two other programmes about his battle with Covid and her struggles navigating the care system, which picked up NTA gongs in the category in 2021 and 2022.

Speaking on her Smooth radio show on Thursday, the 57-year-old confessed: “Let's talk NTAs. I just feel completely overwhelmed and so grateful for the win for our documentary highlighting the care system.

"As for Darcey and Billy, they were so proud of their dad. Although Darcey was also very over excited running everywhere nobbling Love Islanders and reality stars for photos.

“Lovely to see her having fun."

She then admitted: “But particular apologies must go to Bobby Brazier, who she actually interrupted while he was queuing for the loo! Poor soul. He was very nice about it.”

On Wednesday night, Garraway dedicated her NTA to her late husband, calling for more support for carers as she collected her gong.

As she brought her daughter and son forward to stand beside her on stage, she reflected on how they are halfway through the first year of “firsts” without Draper, saying: “It’s so strange to be here – this one’s for you Derek, absolutely.”

The ITV star thanked her team who helped create the documentary series and praised carers across the country, saying: “This one is for all those people who care.”

She also called for a system which better supports carers, adding: “We need a system which catches us when we fall, not catches us out… I’m going to keep the fight on for all of you.”

The event also came just days before what would have been her and Draper’s 20th wedding anniversary.
