Kate Garraway’s Covid stricken husband Derek Draper is said to be back in hospital.

The 54-year-old former political advisor – thought to be the longest suffering patient with the virus in Britain – is believed to have been taken in for a “serious medical procedure” amid his ongoing battle with the disease.

It’s being reported Good Morning Britain host Kate, 55, was at his bedside on Thursday night (18.08.22) to nurse him through his latest health fright, which comes two weeks after she posted a picture on Instagram of her and Derek with their two kids in happier times.

A source told The Sun on Friday night (19.08.22): “This is another hammer blow for poor Derek.

“He is giving the fight against covid his absolute all, but his kidneys have suffered some pretty serious damage.

"Doctors explained there was no alternative but to operate. Of course Kate and the family are worried but she’s been reassured the procedure itself is routine.

“Everyone has everything crossed, and Kate is being her usual stoical self and keeping everything running, business as usual, on the home front.”

Derek suffered significant and lasting damage to his organs after being put on a ventilator in intensive care with Covid, spending 13 months in hospital before being released for home care with Kate.

Kate was last month forced to take time off Good Morning Britain and her Smooth FM radio show to look after her husband.

As well as helping him virtually 24 hours a day, she has to do seven loads of washing a day due to his sheets being drenched in sweats and has had their London home adapted so he can live on the ground floor.

She has also revealed she is now spending “pretty much all my time in hospital”, in an update on Derek she gave on Thursday’s Good Morning Britain after returning to the show.

Derek was last month raced to hospital with “life-threatening sepsis”.

Kate said Derek had developed a kidney infection that developed dangerous complications and was left at risk of losing one of the organs.
