Kate Garraway given 'hope' through coronavirus survival stories, says Piers Morgan

Piers Morgan has said his colleague Kate Garraway is given "huge hope" by hearing stories of coronavirus survivors as her husband Derek Draper remains in intensive care with the illness.

It came as Good Morning Britain spoke to a woman named Jo in Wednesday’s show who battled the coronavirus and survived.

Addressing Jo's doctor ,Dr Wimbush, Morgan, 55, said: "One of our colleagues, Kate Garraway, her husband’s been very critically ill now for a long period of time.

"These sort of stories, I have to say, I think give Kate huge hope when she hears them and sees them, because you know she’s been in this very position that Clive [Jo’s husband] was in where you can’t see your loved one, you have to just muddle through I guess."

Jo's husband Clive told the presenter how he was advised to "prepare for the worst" when his wife fell ill. However, she thankfully pulled through.

“One of the hardest things about this is that there’s no usual personal contact either between loved ones, and their own family, as they are in critical condition fighting for their lives,” Morgan added.

Last week, Garraway, 53, shared that she had FaceTimed her husband in hospital for Thursday's Clap for Carers.

While the presenter said she didn't know if her 52-year-old spouse heard his family, she believed he could.

The couple share two children, Darcey, 14, and 10-year-old Billy. Posting a clip of her son with a LEGO creation, Garraway wrote: "Billy made this for his Dad’s carers to show how much he means to our family & to say thank you for fighting to bring him back to us.

“I am hoping they will let Derek have it by his bed. But even if they can’t THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts - you are superheroes.

“Love to all in these terrible times - the separation from loved ones whatever the reason is so tough.”
