Good Morning Britain star Kate Garraway has said her husband has had “a tough old week” as he remains in hospital amid his coronavirus battle.

Derek Draper, the TV star’s husband of 15 years, fell ill in March and has been in hospital since then.

Updating viewers on the ITV show, Garraway said it had been a tough few days for Draper – but she also shared some good news, revealing that people had been offering to lend her their cars after her own was stolen.

“And it's been kind of a bit of a tough old week for Derek so I haven't got back to anybody, and I haven’t sorted it out yet,” she added.

“But it's just so lovely, some viewers are offering to lend me their cars!”

Shephard then read out a string of messages from people offering up their vehicles to Garraway.

“I am constantly blown away by how lovely you've all been through this,” she said. “And it’s that kind of kindness and generosity that will get us through.”

Garraway’s family car, which she and her two children lovingly call “Vicky the Volvo”, was swiped earlier this month.

She previously said on GMB that she initially assumed the car’s absence was down to a parking ticket that may have been overlooked while Draper was in hospital but discovered it had actually been stolen.

“It was such a body blow, particularly to [son] Billy, because that’s our family car, it’s just another thing that has been grabbed away,” she said.

Garraway also told viewers that one of the nurses at the hospital where Draper is being treated has also had her car stolen.

“I know times are tough and people turn to things they shouldn't do but it is heart-breaking, it is an intrusion, it's something that's yours,” she said.
