Kate Garraway is trying to remain positive after her husband Derek Draper was hospitalised this week.
The former political advisor, 54, became the longest suffering COVID patient in the UK, after spending 13 months in hospital when he contracted the virus back in March 2020 and although he returned to his family home in April 2021, Derek had to go back to hospital this week after taking a turn.
Speaking to Simon Gross on the red carpet at the TRIC Awards 2022, the ‘Good Morning Britain’ said: “He’s back in hospital I’m afraid so a bit of a downturn but fingers crossed.”
But Kate, 55, remains hopeful for his recovery and believes the world has turned a corner in the treatment provided.
She added: “In terms of COVID, I mean when Derek got COVID there was no vaccine there was no treatment there was a lot of challenges, now we have those things so on that level yes it’s not gone away."
Earlier this week, Kate thanked fans for their help after she was reunited with her husband's medication after it was left in a taxi.
The TV presenter initially tweeted a post to Black Cab Lost Property, writing: "@BC_Lostproperty help!! Have just brought Derek home in a mobility black cab from hospital for a weekend visit have left a case with all his meds and kit in the front! (sic)"
She then added: "The driver recognised me but may not know it’s there - please look get in touch - need urgently!! (sic)
Kate was flooded with offers of help, including from one follower who said they knew the driver. They wrote in a message to Kate: "I know the driver Kate as he mentioned he'd taken you and your husband to me this evening. I’m trying to get in touch right now."
The next day, the star returned to the social media site to confirm the lost medication had been found and returned to her.
She wrote: "It’s been returned! Thanks to all who reached out - the message got to driver lovely Robert who has returned it - phew and thanks to all. #happysundayeveryone."
