Kate Garraway made a welcome return to present Good Morning Britain today (July 13) after being away for 14 weeks due to her husband Derek Draper's battle with coronavirus (COVID-19).

Regular hosts Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid have gone off on their annual summer holidays, and Kate and Ben Shephard are leading the programme while they are away.

On this morning's show, Ben said that Kate got in touch with him last night to say she had "a bit of an incident" after dyeing her hair.

"When I got in the car this morning it looked almost fluorescent," she joked. "It may be blonder than we have expected but if there's ever a professional crisis: fake tan, put very long false eyelashes on, and go blonder."

"It's lovely having you back," Ben said, which prompted Kate to say: "We'll have some fun this morning, we've had a lot of emotions."

Kate's husband Derek has been in hospital for months, and while doctors have said his body is now free of the virus, he is still dealing with the side effects of having had it.

"Wonderfully, his eyes are opening but we have no real knowledge of what he can see or feel or hear," she recently said.

"It is a very desperate situation. It is very difficult. Of course there's fantastic hope that he's still alive. The doctors do keep saying it is a miracle he's still alive."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV.
