Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway has revealed that she may be able to visit her husband for the first time in months amid his coronavirus (COVID-19) battle.

Derek Draper has been in hospital for months, and doctors have said he is now free of the virus, though he is still dealing with severe side effects.

Kate returned to GMB yesterday (July 13) after 14 weeks away, and on today's episode, she told co-host Ben Shephard some positive news.

"I might be able to visit Derek after the show today," she said, "and in fact the nurses are going to put Good Morning Britain on for him.

"They've got a TV – obviously we don't know what he can hear or see – but they're going to put it on this morning."

Ben then noted how Derek may be able to hear her voice in the background, as Kate added: "I know, see if there's any reaction. We're trying everything at the moment."

They also joked that Derek may actually be missing Ben more, with Kate quipping: "He's missing you!"

Speaking yesterday upon Kate's return, Ben admitted: "It's lovely having you back," Kate adding: "We'll have some fun this morning, we've had a lot of emotions."

Updating on her husband's condition recently, Kate explained: "Wonderfully, his eyes are opening but we have no real knowledge of what he can see or feel or hear.

"It is a very desperate situation. It is very difficult. Of course there's fantastic hope that he's still alive. The doctors do keep saying it is a miracle he's still alive."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am.
