Kate Garraway shares son Bill's heartbreaking regret after being on stage at NTA win
Good Morning Britain's Kate Garraway has disclosed a moving message from her son Bill that left her speechless. The 57-year-old presenter won the Best Authored Documentary accolade for the third consecutive year at the National Television Awards last night.
The award was for her moving documentary 'Kate Garraway: Derek's Story', which touchingly chronicles her husband Derek Draper's battle against Covid's severe aftermath before his death in January at the age of 56. Reflecting on her latest triumph during Thursday's Good Morning Britain, Kate shared the immense sentimental value the award holds for herself and her children, Darcey and Bill.
While chatting with co-presenters Ed Balls and Susanna Reid, she revealed: "Very emotional for us. The children, when we came off stage, burst into tears, and Bill said, 'In the end I did want to speak.'

"Neither of them wanted to say anything obviously I was very happy for them to. He said 'I wanted to say dad lives on in our hearts'. I said 'I'm so glad you didn't because I think that would have floored me and I wouldn't have been able to speak."
She added: "So personal for us. Thank you to everyone who voted. Not for me but for all the carers."
While accepting her National Television Award, Kate was accompanied by her children and spoke candidly about her feelings, saying: "I really genuinely did not expect this, goodness me. This is a bittersweet one isn't it?
"It's very bitter to be here, with the gorgeous Darcey and Billy. I promised them they didn't have to say anything. We're halfway through the first year of firsts really. A first Easter and first birthday, without Derek. It's so strange to be here for the first Television Awards without him."
