Kate Hudson has opened up about what it's like to co-parent with three different dads, revealing that they work as a "unit".

"It might not look traditional from the outside, but on the inside I feel like we’re killing it," the actor told The Times. "The unit that I’ve created with three children with three different fathers is a seriously strong unit, and it’s ours."

For those not in the know, the How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days actor shares her 18-year-old son, Ryder, with ex-husband Chris Robinson. Kate also has an 11-year-old, Bingham, who is shared with ex-fiancé Matt Bellamy. And her youngest, 4-year-old Rani Rose, is with her current fiancé — Danny Fujikawa.

Speaking about the age gaps between her three kids, Kate added: "I’m definitely more present as a mother now that I’m older."

She went on, "With Ryder, our relationship is so special because I grew up with him. The big learning period of my life and becoming a woman happened as I was being a mother."

Kate revealed that she was "very attached" to her son and "took him everywhere".

"I didn’t leave him until he was two," she admitted. "I didn’t even really put him in school until he was ten, whereas I’m far more structured with my other kids. When Ryder got older I realised a little more structure might be good for the kid."

As for if she wishes her family life were different, Kate went on: "I’m not interested in forcing some conventional idea of love or marriage."

"My goal in life is that I want to feel love and I want to give love."
