Prince William left the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s Hospital in London later that day and returned with Prince George and Princess Charlotte to introduce them to their new baby brother.

The young royals were both dressed in blue as they entered the hospital holding their father’s hands. While George paid no attention to the cameras, Princess Charlotte handled the waiting press like a pro as she smiled and waved to the gathering crowd.

Just a couple of hours later, shortly before 6 p.m. GMT, William and Kate greeted photographers outside of the Lindo Wing to show off their new baby. The Duchess wore a collared red mid-length sleeve dress by Jenny Packham, tights and heels. The dress holds special significance for royal fans, who may recall a similar red dress with white collar worn by Princess Diana as she left the hospital with newborn son, Prince Harry in 1984.

According to In Style, the Duchess’s colourful frock was in honour of St. George’s day — but it’s hard not to see the similarities.

The couple held hands as they exited the hospital. Prince William told photographers they were “very happy” as he took entered the car to drive his wife and newborn son home to Kensington Palace.

While posing for photographers and greeting the media may not sound ideal to a new mother, the Duchess famously looked poised and perfectly coiffed hours after the birth of both Prince George and Princess Charlotte. In fact, Middleton posted for photos outside of the Lindo Wing only 10 hours after giving birth to Princess Charlotte in 2015.

For all three royal baby debuts, Middleton wore colourful frocks by one of her favourite designers, Jenny Packham.

Middleton’s choice of dress is once again a style parallel between the Duchess and the late Princess of Wales. In 2013 her blue and white polka dot knee length dress was a subtle, touching tribute to William’s mother who sported a green polka dotted dress as she left the same Lindo Wing 24 hours after giving birth to Prince William.

Prince George Alexander Louis was born on July 22, 2013 weighing 8 lbs 6 oz. The newborn prince became the third in line for the British throne, after his grandfather Prince Charles and father, Prince William.

Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana was born on May 2, 2015 weighing 8 lbs 3 oz after a quick labour that lasted only two and a half hours after Middleton arrived at the hospital.

That time, Middleton opted for a sunny yellow and white floral 3/4 length sleeve dress by Jenny Packham as she left the hospital. The look was completed with stockings and a nude pair of mid-height heels.
