“Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales was admitted to The London Clinic yesterday for planned abdominal surgery. The surgery was successful and it is expected that she will remain in hospital for 10 to 14 days, before returning home to continue her recovery. Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter,” Kensington Palace said in a statement released on X, formerly Twitter, on Wednesday.
No further details on Middleton’s condition, or the nature of the causes for the abdominal surgery, were given. The Palace added that the Princess of Wales understood news of her surgery would spark “interest,” but that she wanted to maintain privacy for her family and her “personal medical information” as she recovered.
The Palace added that the Royal apologized for delaying planned engagements. “She looks forward to reinstating as many as possible, as soon as possible,” the statement said.
Shortly after news broke of Middleton’s surgery, Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles III would undergo a “corrective procedure” next week for an enlarged prostate, according to reports by the Associated Press, BBC and other outlets. The king’s condition is benign, the Palace added.
