Kate Middleton has had a relatively quiet month; her last event was on August 6. But Us Weekly ran a new report today about how behind the scenes, the Duchess of Cambridge's relationship with Queen Elizabeth II has really changed amid the coronavirus pandemic. The Queen is based at Windsor Castle now, although she is currently on vacation at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. She is not expected to return to London's Buckingham Palace this year because of COVID-19.

Apparently the Queen has come to rely upon Kate to keep things running smoothly, since the Duchess and her team are based at Kensington Palace, the outlet's source claims: “These are strange times for everyone, senior royals included, and having Kate as her rock has made it so much easier for the queen to adapt to her new life at Windsor,” the source said. “More than anything, knowing she can rely on Kate and Prince William to handle matters in her absence is the greatest comfort she could ask for.”

Kate and Prince William have been quarantining with their three children at their Anmer Hall country home in Norfolk. They are expected to return to London (and their Kensington Palace home) in September, as their children's schools will begin in-person classes then.

Us's source added that Kate does privately get advice from the Queen from time to time. “Her Majesty sees the Cambridges as the future of the monarchy and trusts Kate and William’s judgment implicitly,” the source stared. “Kate asks for advice about speeches she’s due to make, whom she can depend on most within the palace and protocol dos and don’ts. The queen’s more than happy to impart her wisdom—she’s proud to be Catherine’s go-to adviser about royal life.”
