Kate and William's unusual sleeping arrangements at Kensington Palace
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who recently shared a heartfelt video where Kate discussed her cancer journey and the completion of her chemotherapy treatment, rarely divulge details about their private life. However, their living arrangements at Kensington Palace are not quite what one might anticipate.
Unlike most couples, they don't sleep in an upstairs bedroom - a floor plan of their residence in Apartment 1A of the iconic London building reveals the location of the bedrooms. The Royal couple and their three children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five, moved to Adelaide Cottage on the Windsor Estate in September 2022.
Their previous home, which remains listed as the family's official residence, has always been somewhat enigmatic. The main bedroom they used to occupy was on the ground floor of Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace.

This apartment, once the home of Princess Margaret, boasts 20 rooms, four floors, its own lift, gym, and nine staff rooms. Late Royal author Christopher Warwick clarified the term 'apartment' on True Royalty's Royal Beat, stating: "All of these royal residences at Kensington Palace are called apartments, which of course makes people immediately think they are flats like the American term for an apartment.
"They are not. If you think of Kensington Palace in a way, it is built around three courtyards. If you kind of think of them as being these wonderful red brick terrace houses. Because they are all joined, but separate houses.", reports OK!.
Meanwhile, the couple who captured hearts with their adorable family video, also have access to Anmer Hall in Norfolk, but have now settled at the more modest four-bedroom Adelaide Cottage in Windsor. Tucked away in the Crown Estate's private 655-acre Royal park, Adelaide Cottage has stood since 1831, originally serving as a haven for King William IV's consort, Queen Adelaide, and boasts both a captivating and raucous history.
Among its many notable inhabitants, Adelaide Cottage was also treasured by Queen Victoria herself, who took particular delight in having breakfast there. Nonetheless, the dwelling is perhaps most infamous for its association with Group Captain Peter Townsend, Princess Margaret's love interest.
Townsend, a decorated former RAF pilot and one-time equerry to King George VI, was embroiled in a notorious affair with Princess Margaret. Their liaison caused quite a stir, given his status as a divorced man 16 years her senior.
Following substantial refurbishments in 2015, Adelaide Cottage now features striking interior embellishments. Rumours suggest the master bedroom is especially extravagant, said to possess a gilded dolphin-decorated ceiling complemented by intricate rope detail.
After Prince Harry and Meghan's 2018 nuptials, whispers circulated that the couple might make the cottage their Windsor abode. The pair were reportedly drawn to the property's privacy and proximity to London.
