Rio Ferdinand’s sons Tate, 13, and Lorenz, 11, played a special part in his wedding to Kate Wright, and now his new bride has shared a touching photo of the moment the two boys walked her down the aisle.

Their wedding was held at the end of last month in Turkey and the pair have been sharing photos of their big day to their social media accounts.

Today saw Wright post a photo of Ferdinand’s sons with his first wife Rebecca Ellison on either side of her as she walked toward Ferdinand who was waiting at the end of the aisle in their outdoor ceremony.

The boys accompanied her half way down the mirrored walkway before her father Phil Wright stepped in to take her the rest of the way.

"There were so many special moments at our wedding ..... but this is one I will never forget #proud #myboys," she wrote alongside the image.

The former footballer, who burst into tears during the ceremony, re-shared the post to his Instagram page, which he captioned: “Wedding day. My 2 boys walking my wife to be down the isle. Warmed my heart this....”(sic)

Ferdinand’s first wife and mother to his three children, Rebecca Ellison, sadly passed away from breast cancer aged 34 in 2015.

The sportsman’s eight-year-old daughter Tia also played a part in the nuptials as she acted as Wright's Maid of Honour.

Posting to Instagram stories, Ferdinand shared a photo of himself and Wright each planting a kiss on his daughter’s cheeks, obscuring the youngster’s face with an Emoji, and wrote: “My Queen & Princess.”

Ferdinand's proposal to Wright in November last year was also a family affair as he asked for her hand in marriage in front of his three children who were in on the secret.
