It has been more than eight years since Katherine Heigl was last seen on Grey's Anatomy. But what does she think her character is up to now?
Dr. Izzie Stevens was a major character in the early seasons – from the heartbreaking storyline with Denny Duquette to her brain tumours and her relationship with Dr. Alex Karev.
Speaking to TVLine, Heigl said that she hopes Izzie was able to move on with her life and has found success in medicine following her departure in 2010.
"I don't know [how Izzie would react]," she said, when asked about Alex marrying Dr. Jo Wilson. "I'd have to start wondering where Izzie is. Like, what is she doing? Where did she go? I would hope that she pursued her [medical] career.
"She could have children by now. She could be married.
"If she has moved on, then I would expect Izzie to be very happy for him. She would want him to be happy."
The actress also called Alex and Jo's marriage "very exciting", saying that she is pleased Alex has found "true love".
Heigl did not leave the show on the best of terms following a series of contentious disagreements with creator Shonda Rhimes and the writing team. However, since then she has said that she would be open to reprising her role.
Elsewhere, another former Grey's Anatomy star – Sandra Oh, who played Dr. Cristina Yang – made Emmy Awards history earlier today (July 12) when she became the first Asian woman to be nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.
Grey's Anatomy airs on ABC in the US and on Sky Living and NOW TV in the UK.
