Katherine Jenkins fears she might not be able to sing at a Christmas concert in front of Pope Francis due to her luggage being lost on the way to Italy.

The 42-year-old opera singer explained to her Twitter followers that British Airways had managed to lose her luggage, putting her performance on Saturday in jeopardy.

Jenkins wrote: "I’m supposed to be singing tomorrow for the Pope’s Christmas concert in Rome. I feel so let down as I will not be able to perform. Please sort this out."

A representative for BA contacted Jenkins in response to her tweet and, in a statement to Metro, the airline apologised and added the company was "doing everything we can to reunite our customer with their delayed baggage as soon as possible".

Jenkins is one of the world's most popular opera singers and has performed in front of some of the most famous people on the planet, including several performances for the late Queen.

She has also made numerous visits to perform for military units all over the world and has become a regular presence at sporting events, especially at Welsh rugby matches.

She revealed recently that the festive season is a busy time of year for her, telling Metro that "there are a lot of concerts in the run-up to Christmas".

Jenkins added: "Being so busy makes Christmas even more special as I can relax and spend the time with family. It’s all about making memories with family and friends."

She has released 13 studio albums over the course of her career, including a special record of traditional Christmas songs in 2012.
