Katie Hopkins launches fresh attack on Gerry and Kate McCann: 'It's an injustice that they weren't charged'

Katie Hopkins has launched a fresh attack on Gerry and Kate McCann, dubbing it an “injustice” that they weren’t punished for leaving their three young children alone in a hotel room whilst they went for dinner on the evening that three-year-old Madeleine was snatched.

The tot went missing 10 years ago while the family were on holiday in Portugal, with millions of pounds since being spent on a worldwide hunt for the girl.

The McCanns have often faced scrutiny for leaving Maddie, alongside her baby twin siblings, alone and now Katie has lashed out in a 90 minute interview with former glamour model Jodie Marsh.

She ranted: “If it was any other parent they would not have got this special treatment, the injustice of it all. I wouldn’t leave my kids, even if they were in sight, even if they were in a hotel room.

“I would take that child with me [so] they could see me, they could know I still cared.

“I think that’s what we struggle with with the McCanns. I don’t really mind what happened but I do mind if that same situation happened to people who came from normal families, maybe council houses, something different would have happened.

“And I think it’s an injustice thing, I am not bothered by them personally but I feel it’s an injustice for people who would have been treated differently.

“It’s an emotional thing.”

Katie also slammed Kate McCann for washing Maddie’s favourite toy, Cuddle Cat, continuing: “My children’s beds, they all have a rabbit, there are three of those toys, I know that they can’t be washed.”

This is far from the first time that Katie has targeted the McCanns, previously saying on her radio show that she thinks it is an outrage that £11million has been spent looking for Maddie over the past 10 years.

Last week there was fresh outrage when the government confirmed that a further £85,000 will be spent to continue looking for her, with Kirstie Allsopp facing the wrath of her followers when she defended the McCanns on Twitter.

The TV star insisted that she saw nothing wrong in leaving children in a hotel room and celebs such as Luisa Zissman hit back to blast her comments.

Other celebs to have spoken out against the McCanns over the years include Katie Price, who said during a Loose Women appearance: “Why in your right mind would you leave your kids in a room?

“It doesn’t matter who you are, you don’t leave your children. If you are on holiday, your kids sleep in buggies, why in your right mind would you leave your kids?

“I don’t care if it is a safe place or if you can see them or not.”
