Katie Piper has revealed that her three-year-old daughter, Belle, has reached an age where she is concerned about the acid attack scars that are on her mother’s face.
The star has opened up about how she explains the scars to the toddler, admitting that she has decided to be as honest as possible.
Speaking to Happiful magazine, Katie shared: “She’ll ask me: ‘Have you hurt yourself there? What happened? Are you okay?’ I think she worries I’m in pain.
“I won’t lie, I just say: ‘It did hurt years and years ago when I first hurt myself, but it’s better now’.”
Katie was targeted by her ex-boyfriend Danny Lynch in 2008, with Lynch – who is now in prison – beating, raping and threatening her before hiring another man to throw sulphuric acid in her face.
The acid almost burned Katie’s face to the bone, blinded her in one eye and damaged her throat and digestive tract, with the star still undergoing regular surgery as a result of the attack.
Last year, Katie admitted that her daughter was “curious” about her scars, particularly after Katie had a nose operation that left her needing breathing tubes.
Speaking at the time, Katie explained: “It’s coming up I can feel it because we were on holiday last week and she pulled my nose tubes out and threw them across the room, so she’s noticing different things so I’m sure as she starts to put more sentences together maybe she will ask things.
“But that’s fine, I’m just going to be the same with her as I am with everybody in my life and it’s just part of me and who I am.”
Over the summer, Katie announced that she and her husband, Richard Sutton, are expecting their second child, with Katie due to give birth later this year.
