Katy Perry blasts off as MTV Video Music Awards host

Katy Perry will take one giant leap for womankind when she hosts the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards next month.

MTV premiered a trippy short film on Instagram on Thursday (July 27) to announce that 'Chained to the Rhythm' singer will be touching down at the VMAs to hand out this year's Moonwoman trophies. That's right - hit the road, Moonman.

"I've been training with MTV in zero gravity, eating astronaut ice cream, and I'm on a group text with Buzz Aldrin and Neil deGrasse Tyson," the singer joked. "Come August 27th, I'll be ready to be your Moonwoman! Brace for impact, kids."

Perry will present the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards live from The Forum in Los Angeles on Sunday, August 27, 2017 at 8pm ET.
