A 15-year-old girl who was missing for five days before her body was discovered died from head and facial injuries, an inquest has heard.

Kayleigh Haywood, from Measham in Leicestershire, disappeared on 13 November after her father dropped her off outside a school in Ibstock.

Police search teams found her body in undergrowth near a lake in Ibstock on 18 November.

Detective Inspector Simon Shuttleworth, the deputy senior investigating officer in the case, told the inquest: "The preliminary and provisional cause of death is head and facial injuries pending further tests.

"Formal identification was completed by a senior crime manager and it was by means of dental records comparison."

Two men have been charged in the case and are due to appear at Leicester Crown Court next month.

Stephen Beadman, 28, of George Avenue, Ibstock, is charged with murder and one count of rape.

Luke Harlow, 27, of George Avenue, Ibstock, is charged with grooming and two counts of sexual activity with a child.

The inquest has been adjourned until February.
