Keanu Reeves and artist girlfriend make rare public appearance on red carpet

Keanu Reeves and girlfriend Alexandra Grant appeared very happy and in love as they walked the red carpet hand-in-hand at a charity event.

The 57-year-old Matrix Resurrections star and the 49-year-old artist attended the gala at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles together and were pictured sharing a joke in front of the cameras.

The private couple - who are believed to have been dating for several years - did not hide their affection for one another as they laughed and made faces, holding hands tightly all the while.

Reeves and visual artist Grant have known each other since 2009 when they were introduced by a mutual friend at a dinner party. They went on to collaborate on two books together - published in 2011 and 2016 - with Grant illustrating the actor's words through photographs and drawings.

They first went public with their relationship in 2019 when they were pictured holding hands on the red carpet at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s Art and Film Gala.

A friend of the pair, Jennifer Tilly, claimed in 2020 that Reeves and Grant had in fact been dating "for several years".

She joked to Page Six: “I remember a couple years ago, about a year and a half ago, [Grant] said, ‘Keanu Reeves is my boyfriend’ and I’m like, ‘Wait. What? What? What?’ She was so cool I thought she was a lesbian."

In 2020 Reeves made headlines when he took his mother - costume and production designer Patricia Taylor - as his date to the Oscars.

Reeves previously dated film director David Lynch's assistant Jennifer Syme in 1998. They had a daughter together who was stillborn in 1999. Syme was then killed in a car accident in 2001.

The tragedy in Reeves' life sparked the 'Sad Keanu' meme, when a paparazzi photo of him looking despondent while sitting on a park bench went viral. This also led to trending hashtag Cheer Up Keanu Day.

The John Wick star has since spoken out on the Sad Keanu picture, joking he was just feeling hungry.

Winona Ryder said last year that she and Reeves had been secretly married on the set of Dracula back in 1992.
