A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a young woman was found dead in a woodland stream.

The body of Keeley Bunker, 20, was discovered 17 hours after she went missing on her way home from a concert in Birmingham.

She had written on Twitter how she was looking forward to the performance by rapper Aitch.

Her mother Debbie Watkins made a public appeal for help on Facebook, writing that Keeley had not been seen since 4am on Thursday morning.

Staffordshire Police said they were alerted to the discovery of a body in a park near Roman Way in Tamworth at 9pm the same day.

“Her death is unexplained at this time and a Home Office post mortem is due to take place tomorrow,” the force said in a statement.

“We would politely request that people refrain from speculating as to the circumstances of Keeley’s death to avoid causing further distress for her family who are being supported by specially-trained officers.”

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of murder on Thursday night and remains in custody.

Detectives were granted a further 36 hours to question the teenager on Saturday morning following an application at North Staffordshire Justice Centre.

Flowers were laid at the scene by friends and family on Friday. One read: “Keeley, sending you all my love, you will be missed by all. Rest well xox.”

Another said: “Keeley, I am going to miss you so so so much. Your laugh, smiley face and through and through beautiful soul!

“You are going to be missed by everyone lucky enough to have ever met you! Miss you already so much, until we meet again, sleep tight.”
