'Keep windows closed' warning as smoke billows across Moreton
Residents have been urged to keep their windows and doors closed following a fire in Moreton. Mersey Fire and Rescue was called to Pasture Road in Moreton at around 5.50pm today, Tuesday, October 1. Eight fire engines were sent to the scene and crews arrived just before 6pm.
When firefighters arrived, they found a derelict building alight. Thick black smoke could be seen billowing into the sky and witnesses reported a smell of burning plastic. The incident is ongoing.
A statement from Mersey Fire said: "Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service is in attendance at an incident at Pasture Road, Moreton. Crews were alerted at 17.49 and on scene at 17.58. Eight fire engines, an aerial appliance and the service drone are in attendance.

"Crews arrived to find a derelict building approximately 100 x 50 metres involved in fire. The incident has been sectorised and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are fighting the fire internally using hose reel jets
"The drone has been set up to assist situational awareness at the scene. Residents and businesses nearby should close windows and doors.
"If you have an existing medical condition, keep medicine close and if any ill effects are experienced dial NHS 111 for advice. This is an ongoing incident. Please avoid the area."
