It's been just under a year since hit drama Keeping Faith finished airing on BBC One, but now we finally know when we can expect to see more as the broadcaster has confirmed when season two will drop.

The programme has already had its premiere on Welsh TV – where its known as Un Bore Mercher – and it's now been confirmed that the gripping series will return to BBC One for its second season on July 23 at 9pm.

Just like with Killing Eve, the series will also be available to watch as a box set on BBC iPlayer after its TV premiere too.

The second season of the show picks up 18 months after season one and sees Eve Myles return as Faith Howells as she's drawn into a new mystery after local farmer Madlen Vaughan (Aimee-Ffion Edwards) is accused of murdering her husband in cold blood.

Between the trial, the prospect of her husband Evan's (Bradley Freegard) imminent release from prison and her conflicted feelings towards former criminal Steve Baldini (Mark Lewis Jones), Faith will find her patience and persistence being tested as she's pushed towards breaking point.

In order to find the truth, Faith will risk everything – including her life, her career and the life of her children.

Last year, Eve spoke to Digital Spy about the challenge the role offered her, explaining: "I thought to myself, 'In five years' time, if I look back at this, and somebody else played this part and I didn't give it a go, I'm going to be desperately unhappy with myself. I don't know if I can live with that. Because I know this is a good piece'.

"So I took the challenge. It was live, breathe and die – every single day on the show. But it was the kick I needed, and it was the challenge I needed. And I've never loved my job so much."

Keeping Faith will return on Tuesday, July 23 at 9pm on BBC One.
