Kent pub hotspots revealed as map shows areas where drinkers are best served

Drinkers in Dover are more well stocked with pubs than anywhere else in Kent. The local authority has a total of 111 pubs within its borders, according to official figures from the Office for National Statistics’ access to local amenities report.

That works out as the equivalent of 93.6 for every 100,000 people living there. That’s the highest rate for any local authority in our county. It’s also the 43rd highest rate in England and Wales, and is higher than the national average of 65.3 per 100,000 people.

Thanet has our county’s next highest number of pubs relative to its population. The area’s 114 boozers works out as 81.2 for every 100,000 people.

That’s followed by Sevenoaks (78.3 per 100,000), Folkestone and Hythe (76.6 per 100,000), Canterbury (73.2 per 100,000), and Swale (71.8 per 100,000).

Residents of Derbyshire Dales are the most well supplied for pubs in England and Wales though. There are 184.5 pubs for every 100,000 people living in the area. Westminster has the next highest rate (168.8 per 100,000), followed by Powys (165.1 per 100,000), and Pembrokeshire (148.8 per 100,000).

Thanet has the most pubs relative to geographic size in our county, however. The town’s 114 pubs work out as the equivalent of 2.8 for every square mile. That’s the 74th highest density in England and Wales and is marginally higher than the national average of 2.6 per square mile.

Gravesham’s 74 pubs work out as 1.9 per square mile, while both Dartford’s and Medway’s pubs are 1.7 per square mile.

London dominates the list of areas with the highest density of pubs in the country. The City of London has the equivalent of 71.7 pubs per square mile, the highest rate in England and Wales.

Westminster has 43.0 pubs per square mile, Islington has 37.7, Camden has 24.6, Kensington and Chelsea has 24.6, and Tower Hamlets has 22.5.
