He was looking forward to the joy of tucking into a prime piece of fried chicken.

But Marc Nicholls was left repulsed after he realised that what was contained in the KFC bread crumbs was no chicken breast – but what appeared to be a lung.

‘It was disgusting,’ Mr Nicholls, 30, told the Daily Mail Australia. 'It was absolutely vile.’

Mr Nicholls, from Australia’s Gold Coast, had gone to KFC on his day off and ordered a three-piece box, containing two wings and a chicken breast.

But the IT technician’s quick lunch took a stomach-churning turn.

Junk food: Marc Nicholls’ offending meal

'I pulled a piece off, then found that and spat the rest out,’ he told Mail Online.

He alerted staff, who told him it could be a lung. Despite this, he was not even offered a refund, but simply told he should contact customer service.

A KFC spokesman said the offending ‘meat’ was most likely a chicken lung or kidney that had been missed during preparation.

It comes after a woman in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, found her KFC meal contained raw giblets.

Put off for life: Mr Nicholls says he will never go to KFC again

She says when she noticed flecks of purple on her chicken Zinger and pulled it apart to find uncooked entrails.

Meanwhile, in New Zealand, Sarah-Jane Williams found fly larvae inside the fried batter.

'Most of the time offal is removed in the preparation process, but occasionally it may remain,’ a KFC spokesman said after the Australian lung incident, adding it posed no health risk.

But Mr Nicholls has vowed never to go to KFC again, warning: 'When you’re eating junk food, you’re actually getting junk.’
